Black Hills Hike: Flume Trail (Loop A)

Earlier in the week we shared information about the Flume Trail and shared pictures of Loop B from when we hiked it in March. Today we want to show pictures from Loop A (that we hiked after B). This trail was a lot of fun! Tunnels, rocks, cliffs, retaining walls, a lake, & nice, sunny weather! We almost made it an all-day hike because we missed the turn to complete our loop. If we would have keep walking, it was 12 miles to the end of the trail. (But it gave us a fun idea we hope to accomplish before we leave for Zim...) Luckily we back-tracked & found the trail we needed.

Some people don't know this about me, but I have a fear of falling. I call it a "fear of falling" more that a "fear of heights" because I really don't mind being up high. I actually like it. But as soon as the thought of falling enters my mind, I freak out! So I like to try to conquer that fear whenever I can. On this hike we perched on a ledge overlooking a cliff of rocks: Kam did some yoga & I celebrated my fear of falling.

We love when the weather is nice enough to wear our Chacos on our hikes, don't you?!

We began&ended Loop A of the Flume trail at the Spring Creek Trailhead. (Remember my solo winter hike?) This trailhead is found on Sheridan Lake Road between Rapid City & Sheridan Lake.

  3. This is so beautiful!

We love the Black Hills- we go out there every summer... mostly to camp, ride the motorcycle, and ride horses. I've never heard of this trail- but it's super beautiful! We'll have to find it this summer!

  9. We usually end up in the Mt Rushmore KOA. My in-laws have been going out there for a week every summer since my hubby was little- they bring out all the horses, and ATV's, and a full-sized fridge... it's crazy. I have a very tender spot of my heart reserved for the Black Hills- it's where I fell in love with my husband, and also where he proposed four years later!

We all live in Iowa- so not too terribly far away- and once you're hooked on Black Hills beauty, there's no turning back! =)
