During our mini-vacation in Savannah, GA, we took a tour of the Tybee Island Lighthouse. This lighthouse was a selling point for us when it came to where we wanted to lay our heads at night. If the weather wasn't meant to be so rainy & cold, we wanted to camp on the island, instead we slept at the Dunes Inn. We recommend it.
Some random facts about the Tybee Island Light Station.
- 178 stairs to the top
- Guiding ships to the Savannah River for 270 years
- Rebuilt several times
- Built under the direction of the man who founded the Wormsloe Plantation.
- The first two lighthouses were demolished by the ocean storms
- The third was set afire
- Still works
- Can be seen 20 miles from shore
Take a look at our many lighthouse photos!
